I really like the idea behind Oink, an app that lets you rate things inside of places. So while Google Maps, Yelp, and Foursquare might help you find a restaurant or bar to go to, Oink gives you recommendations of particular menu items. You can rate items with a scale from “thumbs down” to “love” and leave a mini-review. Of course, it has all the social media functionality you’d expect: friends recommendations, a feed, scores, to-dos, and cute little interface touches (pig-themed, of course).
While the network of users putting content into Oink hasn’t yet reached a critical mass, I think this app has huge potential. For me, one of the most valuable features in foursquare is the tips section. When I sit down at an unfamiliar restaurant, it’s great to get a short crowd-sourced list of recommendations from the menu. Now with Oink that list is better organized and also includes photos of the dishes.
